Good News!
The additional 292 GS-FTE's that we have been hearing about have been allocated out to the states! I visited with Greg Diephouse, DAFO yesterday and he advised me that that each SED has been given their new allocations for FY 2015. He indicated that every state got a minimum increase of 5% and each state received at least one FTE. The remaining FTE's were allocated by a staffing model based on workload. Each individual SED was given their own state's allocation to disburse to the field as they determine. These positions were primarily for the delivery of Farm Loan Programs in the field but they recognize that some of the positions will be utilized for support of FLP. Each State Association should now begin working with your individual SED to voice your concerns and need for these positions. They need your input on how best to utilize these positions for the most efficient delivery of the program. It is anticipated that we will begin hiring a number of FLOT's soon and training will become another challenge. An outside contractor has been hired to help with the HR process in the advertising of vacancies, reviewing of applicants, and the determination of the best qualified candidates. They hope is this will help speed up the hiring process. It is my understanding that the new FLOT questionnaire is now in place and the new scoring criteria has been established. We hope this will help us in obtaining the best candidates for these positions. A big thank you to Maureen Mausbach for helping design the new questions as she served on a task force that provided field input on this process. The National FLP Training meeting will be held Dec. 1-5 in Nashville, TN. I will be attending this meeting on behalf of the association. We will have a chance to discuss a wide variety of topics. Please let me know of any concerns that you would like addressed. On behalf of the NACS Board we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
