I had a question from a member about the SF-8 that is required by state unemployment offices. The member's state had put a St. Louis address on it. The member was also concerned if government employees would be available to process the request for the SF-50.
Today I received the following information from Candy Thompson. "I am not sure why St. Louis was put on the form. NFC's website has instructions on how to file for unemployment. Here is the link: https://www.nfc.usda.gov/News/unemployment.html These instructions tell employees to enter their HR office address which should be the state office if they are field employees. We are working with the Department on the unemployment filing process. The Office of Personnel Management has been talking to the States' unemployment offices and most states (Missouri may be an exception) have waived the requirement for the SF-50. We plan to have staff available next week to assist employees with filing unemployment claims. We are working on logistics of how this will work. We will share the information as soon as possible". Candy Thompson The news out of Washington is starting to sound a little more positive about ending the furlough. Remember that Monday is a Holiday even if the furlough is ended.
